Protein

Protein

Protein is a fundamental macronutrient that plays a critical role in the overall functioning of our bodies. Here are several reasons why it’s important to include protein in our daily diets:

  • Building Blocks of the Body: Protein is made up of amino acids, often referred to as the building blocks of the body. These are essential for the growth and repair of tissues, including muscles, bones, skin, and hair. Without adequate protein, our bodies cannot repair damaged cells or generate new ones.

  • Enzymes and Hormones: Proteins are involved in creating enzymes and hormones. These substances play crucial roles in bodily processes such as metabolism, digestion, and the regulation of blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

  • Immune Function: Proteins help form antibodies, which are essential in the immune system’s fight against infections and illnesses. A lack of protein can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to disease.

  • Transport and Storage: Some proteins act as carriers, transporting substances throughout the body. For example, hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells, transports oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs to be exhaled.

  • Maintaining Fluid Balance: Proteins play a role in maintaining the balance of fluids within the body. They prevent the accumulation of fluids in tissues, a condition known as edema.

  • Satiety and Weight Management: Protein is more satiating than carbohydrates or fats, which can help regulate appetite and support weight management. Consuming adequate protein can reduce hunger and prevent overeating.

  • Muscle Maintenance and Growth: For those engaged in regular physical activity, protein is particularly important for repairing and strengthening muscle tissue. This is vital for athletes, bodybuilders, or anyone involved in strenuous activities.

  • Energy Source: While not the body’s primary energy source, protein can serve as a fuel source, especially when carbohydrate reserves are depleted.

  • Supports Aging: As we age, we lose muscle mass and strength. A higher protein intake can help slow down muscle loss and maintain mobility and strength in older adults.

Given its essential role in almost every bodily function, it’s clear that protein is a vital component of a healthy diet. It’s important to consume a variety of protein sources to ensure a full range of amino acids. Sources can include meat, fish, dairy, eggs, and plant-based options like beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.

Both clean carbohydrates and proteins are essential for muscle building, each playing a distinct role in the process. Understanding how they contribute can help optimize your nutrition for muscle growth.

Protein and Muscle Building:

  • Muscle Repair and Growth: Protein is crucial for muscle building because it provides the amino acids that are the building blocks for muscle tissue. After exercising, muscles undergo repair and growth, and protein is necessary for these processes.
  • Stimulating Muscle Protein Synthesis: Consuming protein, especially after a workout, stimulates muscle protein synthesis, which builds new muscle.
  • Preserving Lean Muscle Mass: When trying to lose fat, a higher protein intake can help ensure that the weight lost is primarily fat and not muscle mass.

Clean Carbohydrates and Muscle Building:

  • Energy Source: Carbohydrates are the body’s primary energy source. They fuel your workouts, particularly high-intensity and endurance training. Without adequate carbohydrate intake, your body may use protein for energy, which can hinder muscle growth.
  • Glycogen Replenishment: Carbohydrates are stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen. After exercising, these glycogen stores are depleted and need to be replenished. Consuming carbohydrates post-workout helps replenish these stores, essential for recovery and subsequent performance.
  • Insulin Release: Consuming carbohydrates leads to the release of insulin, an anabolic hormone that promotes glucose and amino acid uptake by the muscles. This process is beneficial for muscle repair and growth.

Clean Carbohydrates refer to whole, unprocessed carbohydrate sources that are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Examples include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. These types of carbohydrates are not only better for overall health but also provide a more sustained release of energy compared to refined carbohydrates.

For optimal muscle building, it’s important to have a balanced intake of both clean carbohydrates and proteins. Carbohydrates provide the energy necessary for high-intensity workouts, while proteins provide the amino acids needed for muscle repair and growth. Consuming a combination of both after workouts can be particularly effective, as the carbohydrates help shuttle amino acids into the muscles, promoting recovery and growth.

Cultivating Positivity in Food Choices

In our quest for healthier, more sustainable food sources, it’s important to highlight not only the challenges we face but also the abundance of positive choices available to us.

Alternative Protein Sources

It’s a time of exciting innovation in the food industry, particularly with the development of cellular meat. While it’s a novel solution striving to address food production and sustainability issues, it’s one among many options. We’re reminded of the rich variety of protein sources available to us in the form of nuts, seeds, beans, vegetables, grains, and mushrooms. These natural foods offer a bounty of nutrients and are easily integrated into our diets.

Embracing Plant-Based Choices

The PURE program exemplifies how plant-based, whole-food choices can enrich our diets. By incorporating more plants into our meals, we not only eat healthier but also support a more sustainable food system. This isn’t about strict dietary restrictions but about making conscious, positive choices that benefit both our bodies and the environment.

Understanding Our Food’s Origins

Knowledge is power, and understanding where our food comes from is crucial. Whether it’s meat, fish, vegetables, or grains, being informed helps us make ethical and sustainable choices. This understanding extends to the impact of our choices on farmers, transporters, and everyone involved in bringing food to our tables.

Eating Clean and Seasonal
Eating clean also means being aware of how our food is grown. Lists like the “Dirty Dozen” and “Clean Fifteen” can guide us in choosing foods with lower pesticide levels. Moreover, sourcing locally and eating seasonally not only ensures fresher produce but also supports local communities and reduces our carbon footprint.

A Challenge for Change

This is a call to action, an invitation to be more mindful about our food choices. It’s about broadening our horizons, exploring the rich tapestry of food sources available, and understanding the profound impact our choices have on our health, society, and the planet. Let’s celebrate the abundance and variety of positive food choices we have at our disposal.

Many people are amazed to see that there are very good protein alternatives in nuts, seeds, beans, vegetables, grains, and mushrooms.  The idea that protein HAS to come from an animal source is completely unfounded.  There are plenty of natural options already available.

PURE

“Celebrate good, healthy food with intentional eating.”

We created the PURE, Plant-based, Whole-Foods program out of a need for a less inflammatory style of eating.  You don’t have to eat 100% one way or the other, but it teaches your patients/clients to build more plants into their meals.  It teaches food preparation in a healthy way.  We encourage local food sourcing and seasonal eating.  Again, doing the right thing most of the time is BIG.  It’s not all or nothing like many people guilt themselves into.  Eat to feel good.

The Power of List Building for Health Coaches

    Lessons in Business

    for Health Coaches

Michelle Knight Storytelling and Personal Brand Coach

Starting a health coaching business is a journey of passion, dedication, and strategy. One strategy that stands out in its effectiveness and importance is list building. Building an email list is more than just gathering email addresses; it’s about creating a community of interested individuals who value what you offer. Here’s why every health coach should prioritize list building:

    1. Direct Line to Your Tribe

Your email list allows for direct, personalized communication. Unlike social media where messages can get lost, an email lands straight in an individual’s inbox, creating a more intimate connection.

    2. No Algorithm Blues

Relying solely on social media means you’re at the mercy of ever-changing algorithms. With an email list, you’re in control, ensuring your messages reach their intended audience.

    3. Convert Interest into Action

People on your email list have shown interest in your services, making them prime candidates for conversion. Emails often lead to higher engagement and client bookings.

    4. Budget-Friendly Marketing

Email marketing platforms are cost-effective, especially when compared to some paid advertising options. It’s an affordable way to reach potential clients consistently.

    5. Foster Lasting Client Relationships

Keep the bond with your existing clients strong through regular updates and valuable insights, ensuring they see your ongoing value in their health journey.

    6. Tailored Communication

Segmentation features in email platforms allow for targeted messaging. This means you can cater to specific client interests, from weight loss to sports nutrition, optimizing your communication.

    7. Become the Go-To Expert

Sending consistent and valuable content positions you as an authority in health coaching. This not only builds trust but also cements your reputation in the industry.

    8. A Two-Way Street

Your email list is not just for sending out messages. It’s also an avenue to receive feedback, making it a tool for continuous improvement.

    9. Promote with Precision

Launching a new program or workshop? Your email list is your ready audience, already interested and primed for your latest offerings.

    10. A Lasting Business Asset

Over time, your email list becomes a significant asset. Even as trends change and platforms evolve, this list remains a consistent way to connect with your community.

Maximizing List Building: To make the most of list building, offer engaging incentives for sign-ups, prioritize engagement over sheer numbers, maintain regular yet non-intrusive communication, and always respect privacy regulations.

In a Nutshell: For health coaches, list building isn’t just a strategy; it’s a game-changer. It’s about cultivating relationships, understanding client needs, and growing in a sustainable manner. Start building your list and see the transformative impact on your health coaching venture.

    Secrets of Storytelling for Marketing

    Lessons in Business

    for Health Coaches

Michelle Knight Storytelling and Personal Brand Coach

Storytelling in marketing isn’t just about sharing tales, but also about effectively communicating the value and essence of a brand or product. When skillfully employed, storytelling can create an emotional connection, build trust, and move consumers towards action. Here are some key storytelling secrets tailored specifically for marketing:

    1. Know Your Audience: Understand who you’re speaking to before crafting any story. What are their desires, fears, challenges, and aspirations? Your story should resonate with these points.
    2. Start with the ‘Why’: Simon Sinek’s “Start with Why” concept highlights the power of explaining the reasons behind your brand or product, not just its features or benefits. This taps into emotions and deeper motivations.
    3. Build a Brand Narrative: Your brand’s story isn’t just about a single ad or campaign. It’s an ongoing narrative that communicates your brand’s evolution, values, and purpose.
    4. Use Real Stories: User-generated content, testimonials, or stories of how your product or service impacted a real person can be incredibly powerful.
    5. Integrate Visual Storytelling: A compelling image or video can sometimes communicate more than words. Use visuals to enhance and support your narrative.
    6. Establish Conflict and Resolution: Just like traditional storytelling, introduce a problem (a challenge your target audience faces) and then offer a resolution (how your product/service solves it).
    7. Keep it Authentic: Audiences can sense insincerity from a mile away. Your story should be genuine, reflecting the true values and mission of your brand.
    8. Evoke Emotion: Emotion drives action. Whether it’s happiness, nostalgia, motivation, or even fear, stories that trigger emotion are more memorable and shareable.
    9. Ensure Consistency: Across all platforms and campaigns, there should be a consistent narrative. This builds brand recognition and trust.
    10. Invite Participation: Engage your audience by inviting them to be part of your story. This could be through interactive content, user-generated content campaigns, or community initiatives.
    11. Simplicity is Key: Avoid over-complicating your story. The core message should be simple and easy for the audience to grasp.
    12. Utilize Multi-Channel Storytelling: Different platforms (like blogs, social media, videos, podcasts) offer various ways to tell your story. Adapt and tailor your story for each medium.
    13. Relevance and Timeliness: Craft stories relevant to current events or trending topics, making your brand feel up-to-date and in touch.
    14. End with a Call to Action (CTA): After sharing your story, guide the audience on what to do next. This could be signing up, making a purchase, sharing the story, or any other relevant action.
    15. Continuously Evolve: The market, audience preferences, and cultural narratives change. Be willing to adapt and evolve your story as needed.

By leveraging the power of storytelling in marketing, brands can create a deeper, emotional connection with their audience, fostering loyalty and driving consumer action.

Moderation: A Message for Health Coaches

    Lessons in Coaching

    for Health Coaches

    Too Many Medications

In our dynamic and often challenging healthcare environment, we are on the front lines of guiding patients toward better health and well-being. While it is tempting to advocate for extreme interventions, promising quick fixes or drastic outcomes, moderation is a key principle that needs more emphasis in our conversations. Here’s why:

    1. The Human Body and Mind Favor Balance

Humans have evolved with systems that function best in equilibrium. For example, our metabolic processes, hormone levels, and mental state thrive when balanced.

Extremes in diet, exercise, or stress can push these systems out of whack, leading to potential health risks.

By endorsing moderation, we ensure the sustainability and resilience of our body’s natural processes.

    2. One-Size-Doesn’t-Fit-All

Every individual has a unique genetic makeup, health history, and lifestyle. While an intensive exercise regimen might work wonders for one person, it could harm another.

Moderation encourages personalized healthcare, which is both an art and a science, allowing professionals to tailor advice to the individual.

    3. Moderation Reduces Burnout

A common drawback of extreme approaches is the burnout factor. An all-or-nothing mindset may produce rapid results, but it’s often not sustainable long-term.

By encouraging a moderate approach, we help patients maintain their new habits and reduce feelings of guilt or defeat if they occasionally stray from their path.

    4. Flexibility in Approach

Moderation offers the flexibility to adjust strategies as one progresses. For instance, if a dietary change is too restrictive, it can be modified without the person feeling like they’ve completely fallen off the wagon.

This flexibility can be instrumental in maintaining morale and motivation.

    5. It’s Rooted in Evidence

Time and again, studies have shown the benefits of a balanced lifestyle. Whether it’s the longevity observed in societies practicing moderation or the myriad of health benefits associated with a balanced diet and regular, moderate exercise, the evidence is compelling.

As professionals grounded in evidence-based practice, it makes sense to heed this wisdom.

    6. Long-Term Commitment vs. Short-Term Gains

Moderation fosters a mindset of growth, learning, and commitment.

Rather than seeking the rapid, fleeting rewards of extreme measures, a moderate approach helps patients cultivate habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.

    Conclusion

Moderation, often overlooked in our age of extremes, holds the key to sustainable health and well-being. For health coaches, it provides a solid foundation for guiding patients with care that respects individuality, values long-term health over short-term gains, and harmoniously aligns with the innate wisdom of our bodies. By championing moderation, we can pave the way for a healthier, happier society.

Shifting to Group Coaching: Evolving Your Health Coaching Practice

    Lessons in Business

    for Health Coaches

When you’ve mastered the art of one-on-one coaching and identified a method and style that resonates, you might start contemplating the benefits of group coaching. 11. Bootcamps: Intense, short-duration programs focusing on a specific outcome, e.g., fitness.
    12. Recipe Swap Meetings: Participants share and discuss healthy recipes.
    13. Group Meditation and Mindfulness Sessions: Guided relaxation and meditation exercises.
    14. Book Clubs: Reading and discussing health-related books.
    15. Fitness Classes: Group exercise sessions tailored to varying fitness levels.
    16. Monthly Health Challenges: Different health challenge every month, like hydration, sleep, or nutrition.
    17. Interactive Workshops: Hands-on workshops, e.g., cooking classes or DIY natural skincare.
    18. Virtual Support Groups: For specific challenges, e.g., dealing with chronic illness.
    19. Collaborative Project Groups: Groups working on a shared health goal, like community gardening.
    20. Panel Discussions: Inviting experts to discuss health topics, with participant interaction.

Each method provides a unique opportunity for participants to engage, learn, and grow in their health journey while fostering a sense of community and mutual support.

    A Change in Business Tactics

Expanding into group programs can be a strategic move for health coaches. Here are several reasons why:

    1. Scalability and Income Stability: One-on-one coaching is limited based on time and availability. Moving to group programs allows a coach to serve multiple clients simultaneously, increasing revenue without exponentially increasing workload.
    2. Increased Impact: Group coaching allows health coaches to reach more individuals at once, thereby amplifying their impact on community health and well-being.
    3. Diverse Client Interactions: Group settings bring together individuals from various backgrounds and experiences. This diversity can lead to rich discussions, shared experiences, and collective problem-solving.
    4. Builds a Community: Group programs foster a sense of community among participants. Clients can support and learn from each other, creating an environment of mutual growth and accountability.
    5. Cost-Effective for Clients: Individually, one-on-one coaching can be costly for clients. Group coaching often provides a more affordable alternative, making health coaching services accessible to a broader audience.
    6. Flexible Format: Group programs can be offered in various formats—webinars, online courses, workshops, retreats, etc., providing flexibility for both the coach and the clients.
    7. Passive Income Opportunities: Group programs, especially those that are pre-recorded or automated, can be sold repeatedly without additional effort, creating a source of passive income.
    8. Enhances Credibility: Offering group programs can position a health coach as an expert in their field. Successfully managing and guiding a group can showcase a coach’s expertise and leadership skills.
    9. Opportunity for Feedback: With a larger group, there’s a wider range of feedback. This feedback can be invaluable for refining coaching methods, materials, and approaches.
    10. Collaborative Learning: Group sessions can leverage collaborative tools and activities like breakout sessions, role-playing, and group discussions, making the learning process interactive and dynamic.
    11. Efficient Use of Resources: Instead of repeating the same advice or lessons to individuals, health coaches can disseminate information to a group, ensuring efficient use of their time and resources.
    12. Marketing and Referrals: A satisfied group can lead to multiple referrals. Word-of-mouth from several group members can significantly boost a health coach’s clientele and reputation.
    13. Continuous Professional Growth: Managing group dynamics, addressing diverse needs, and adapting content for a broader audience can be challenging but also fulfilling. It pushes health coaches to continuously improve and expand their skill set.

In conclusion, while one-on-one coaching remains invaluable and irreplaceable in many scenarios, group programs offer an avenue for health coaches to grow professionally, increase their outreach, and make their services more accessible and affordable.

There are a lot of different ways to run your groups.  We’ll look at expanding this later on with more ideas.  Share what you’ve been doing.

How to Announce You’re a Health Coach and Open for Business

    Lessons in Business

    for Health Coaches

Announcing that you’re a health coach and letting people know about your services requires a strategic mix of personal, online, and offline methods. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you spread the word:

    1. Personal Network:

    • Direct Communication: Reach out to friends, family, and acquaintances. Let them know what you’re doing, the benefits of a health coach, and how you can assist.
    • Testimonials: If you’ve already helped someone, ask them for a testimonial. A personal story can be very powerful.

    2. Branding:

    • Business Cards: These are handy for face-to-face networking opportunities.

    • Professional Photos: Invest in a professional photoshoot. This not only boosts your credibility but also is useful for social media, websites, and promotional materials.

    3. Online Presense:

    • Website: Create a website detailing your services, background, testimonials, pricing, and contact information.

    • Social Media: Start profiles on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Share health tips, articles, success stories, and client testimonials. Instagram is a powerful tool for health coaches because of its visual nature.

    • Online Directories: Register on websites that list health coaches, so potential clients can find you.

    • Email Newsletter: Build an email list and regularly send out newsletters with health tips, updates, and promotions.

    4. Local Outreach:

      • Partner with Local Businesses: Collaborate with local gyms, health stores, and yoga studios. Offer to provide a free seminar or workshop in exchange for promoting your services to their clients.
      • Networking: Join local business networks or groups, such as the Chamber of Commerce, to connect with other professionals who can refer clients to you.
      • Workshops & Seminars: Offer free or paid workshops or seminars on health topics. This positions you as an expert in your community.

    5. Public Relations

      • Guest Blogging: Write for health and wellness blogs. It helps in establishing your authority in the field.

      • Podcasts & Webinars: Guest speak or host your own to reach a broader audience.

      • Local Media: Pitch your story or offer health tips to local newspapers, magazines, or TV stations.

    6. Offer a Promotion

        •  Referral Programs: Offer existing clients a bonus or discount for referring new clients.
        • Discounts:  Offer an introductory discount for new clients.

    7. Stay Up to Date and Engaged

    • Continuous Learning: Keep updating your knowledge in health coaching. This not only benefits your clients but can also be used as a marketing point.

    • Engage with Followers: Regularly engage with your followers on social media or your blog. Respond to comments, answer questions, and initiate discussions.

Lastly, remember that being genuine and truly caring about the well-being of others is key.

When people sense your authenticity and dedication, they’re more likely to trust and recommend you. Good luck with your health coaching journey!

The Medical Profession Crisis: Addressing Shortages and Overabundance Through Health Coaches

    Lessons in Wellness

    for Health Coaches

    Introduction

The medical profession, a vital part of our modern society, is at a crossroads. The dire shortage of physicians and nurses combined with an influx of high-need patients has created a healthcare system on the brink. Most people remain unaware of this looming crisis until personal experiences expose the harsh realities. A recent encounter with the healthcare system opened my eyes to the gravity of the situation, showing how an overburdened system can leave patients without answers and in fear.

    The Crisis

    Lack of Physicians and Nurses

Retirement, burnout, limited educational opportunities, and soaring demand for healthcare have led to a shortage of physicians and nurses. This scarcity leads to long wait times, overworked staff, and decreased patient satisfaction, often culminating in mismanaged care and an inefficient healthcare system.

    Overabundance of High-Need Patients

An aging population, increased chronic diseases, and mental health needs have added pressure to the strained system. These high-need patients require specialized care, creating a challenge that the current healthcare structure struggles to meet.

    The Impact

The combination of these issues is wreaking havoc:

    • Decreased Quality of Care: With fewer providers, care is compromised, leading to potential misdiagnosis and ineffective treatments.
    • Increased Healthcare Costs: The scarcity inflates costs, making treatment unaffordable for many.
    • Increased Wait Times: Extended waiting periods delay essential care.
    • Professional Burnout: The increased workload results in exhaustion among healthcare professionals, exacerbating the crisis.

Personal Responsibility and the Role of Doctors

There needs to be a distinct line drawn between the scope of practice in the players in the wellness field.

Patients must take responsibility for their health, focusing on wellness and prevention.

Doctors are trained to diagnose and treat, not necessarily to foster wellness.

This realization calls for a new partnership between patients and healthcare providers.

    A Solution: Integrating Health Coaches

    What Are Health Coaches?

Health coaches are professionals trained to focus on preventive measures, lifestyle changes, and chronic condition management.

    How Can Health Coaches Help?

    1. Reducing the Burden on Healthcare Professionals: By emphasizing preventive care, they can ease the workload on physicians and nurses.
    2. Improving Patient Outcomes: Personalized coaching empowers patients, leading to better well-being.
    3. Lowering Healthcare Costs: Preventive care and self-management can reduce expenses.

    Implementation Strategies

    • Education and Training: Equip health coaches to work with healthcare providers.
    • Integration into the Healthcare System: Enable collaboration with physicians and nurses.
    • Insurance and Regulation: Recognize health coaching as a regulated part of healthcare.

    Conclusion

The integration of health coaches could be a beacon of hope for a medical profession in crisis. This solution, along with personal responsibility and a shift in understanding the roles of patients and doctors, can rejuvenate the healthcare system. It requires the concerted effort of governments, healthcare organizations, and educational institutions to adapt and innovate. Our health and the well-being of society are at stake, and the time for action is now.

    Increase Your Sales With Touch-points

    Updated from May 2019

One of the scariest things, according to most of you, is advertising and spending money to get your name out in front of the public.  Most of my focus has been on list building and social media.  They are both important and will increase sales in your business if you are consistent, have the right message, audience, and a compelling call to action. touch-point

In brick and mortar business, I’ve always followed the 7 touch-point rule.  You need to have your product and your business in front of your customer a minimum of 7 times before you will make an appointment or sell something to them.

All the research I see today says 6-14 times.  Because of the crazy online busyness, I would double those numbers.  Most of you get in front of a person once or maybe twice.  You have such an incredible gift to share, but if no one knows about you, you have no one to share it with.  Get your face, your name, your brand, your message out there.  Become recognizable and when they are READY to buy they WILL come to you and you’ll see your sales increase.

    What are touch-points?

    many, many options

Touch-points are the number of times that a potential client or client has contact with a business, or product, or person representing a business.  It’s during these touch-points that the client decides if they’ll do business with a company or buy it’s products or services.  There are touch-points which make up a client’s experience before, during, or after a purchase.  So those touch-points are important all the way through.  They determine if you’ll get repeat business or referrals too.

Today we’re going to be primarily focused on the “before” touch-points.

It’s important that you diversify your touch-points so you learn which are most effective for your target market.  I’ve always said not to bury yourself in social media.  That is still true, find out which one or two platforms are best for your clients and don’t do more than that.  Focus and do those well instead of spreading yourself too thin.

“Your brand is a story unfolding across all customer touch points. ‘”  Jonah Sachs

Your clients experience with your brand is your story.  Be sure your story is authentic and engaging.

    Touch-points

Pick, try them out, expand, adjust, analyze and improve.

The ways you can make contact with potential customers is limited only by our imagination.  Here is a list of different touch-points:

    1. social media (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn) interaction and advertising
    2. email marketing
    3. direct mail
    4. newspaper
    5. radio
    6. television
    7. SEO
    8. programmatic ads (Google)
    9. workshops
    10. webinars
    11. clinics
    12. store demonstrations
    13. vendor events
    14. trade shows
    15. referrals
    16. business cards
    17. special signature
    18. blogs
    19. podcasts
    20. quotes and pricing
    21. vehicle ads
    22. magazine ads
    23. text messaging
    24. website
    25. voicemail
    26. events
    27. exposure through joint ventures
    28. packaging
    29. you and the way you treat people
    30. office
    31. sales channels
    32. sampling
    33. sponsoring
    34. person-to-person
    35. public relations
    36. testimonials

Your brand is important.  Your brand should be apparent in each point of contact.  The more times you “touch”, the more likely your potential client will remember you.  Keep it simple, honest, and provide value in each point of contact.

We’ll talk again about how important the client experience is.  Once you have a customer, you need to make sure they’re happy and satisfied.  You also need to learn when to say no.  We’ll talk about that too.

    Wearables and  Heart Health

    Lessons in Wellness

    for Health Coaches

Patients with heart failure are very sick, and studies show that they don’t always receive or have access to the follow-up care they need.  Luckily, technology and information access make it easy for coaches and even patients themselves to be proactive and self-manage by watching their lifestyle habits and monitoring their results with wearables.  It’s important to stay connected to your primary physician, your pharmacist, and if you don’t have a cardiologist, get in with one at the earliest possible opening.  Sometimes, that’s easier said than done.  Have them put you on a waiting list and determine their procedure to move you up.  If they allow, call daily to check for cancelations and be ready to fill them.  It’s helpful to have someone to advocate for you.

Get copies of your reports and read them.  Understand the drugs you are taking, and be sure that all of your doctors have a complete list of drugs and supplements you are taking from any and all doctors.  Have your pharmacist review those medications with you to be sure they don’t interact badly.

Get into your primary care doctor within 7-10 days of hospitalization.  They should go over medication, nutrition, and symptoms.  Let them know what you’re eating, what your wearables show, and what you’re experiencing with medication and symptoms.

    How to Use Wearables

    1. Set Up Your Device: Make sure your Apple Watch is correctly set up. This means you need to pair it with your iPhone, ensure it’s fully charged, and that the WatchOS software is up to date.

    2. Monitor Your Heart Rate: Apple Watch has a built-in heart rate monitor. Familiarize yourself with how it works, as monitoring your heart rate during activity can help prevent overexertion. In addition, your healthcare provider may give you specific heart rate targets to aim for during your rehabilitation exercises.

    3. Download Relevant Apps:

      • Apple Health: This app collects data from your Apple Watch about your workouts, heart rate, and more, providing a comprehensive overview of your health.

      • Cardiac Rehab Apps: There are various apps designed to assist with cardiac rehab. One such app is “myHeart” which includes guided exercise programs and self-care education. However, the app availability might change, so consult with your healthcare provider for the best current apps that suit your specific needs.

    4. Exercise Program: Most cardiac rehab programs include a combination of warm-up exercises, low-impact aerobic activity, strength training, and cool-down exercises. You can track your progress and heart rate through your Apple Watch during these activities.

      • Warm-up: Start with 5-10 minutes of light stretching or slow walking.
      • Aerobic Activity: Activities like brisk walking or cycling. Aim for 20-30 minutes, but start slow and gradually increase as your endurance improves. Your healthcare provider will help establish your target heart rate for these activities.
      • Strength Training: Light resistance training can be beneficial. Discuss with your healthcare provider about the right exercises for you.
      • Cool-down: Finish with 5-10 minutes of slow walking and stretching.
    5. Track Your Progress: Use the apps to track your progress over time. Many apps will provide visual graphics and summaries of how your strength and endurance have improved, and you can share this information with your healthcare provider.

    6. Sleep and Recovery: Use your Apple Watch’s sleep tracking features to ensure you’re getting adequate rest. Good sleep is crucial for recovery.

    7. Medication Reminders: The Apple Health app can send reminders to take medication at the right times, which is essential for heart failure patients.

    8. Mindfulness and Stress Management: The Apple Watch also has a Breathe app, which can guide you through short deep breathing sessions to help reduce stress, an important aspect of cardiac rehab.

    Professional Medical Advice Rules

Remember to always listen to your body and consult with your healthcare provider regularly throughout this process. Technology is a tool that can greatly assist in your rehab journey, but it should complement, not replace, professional medical advice and monitoring.
